Take A Hike In The Clouds

Jlynn Frazier

I remember how happy I was to be there. Walking along the ridge line from peak to peak. It was cool and hazy. Great climbing weather. By the time we reached the second peak, the clouds had engulfed us. It was a joyful moment. The clouds would move a little and open a window sized view to look out at the landscape. I was nearly jumping up and down with excitement. It was like I was dancing in and above the clouds at the same time.

Each time I get ready to hike a mountain I am filled with excitement and anticipation. No matter how many times I have hiked a particular mountain, each time is it's own, unique experience. One thing you can always count on in the mountains... rapidly changing weather.

It's just awesome to be high on a peak during one of these rapidly changing moments. You can be prepared for the moment. You can even try to predict the moment. But you cannot plan for what will happen.  You just have to be on the mountain and listen to what it tells you that day.

Soon the clouds got really thick. I could no longer see beyond the edge of my nose. Okay, maybe I could see a little farther but not by much.

It is in these moments that my energy rises as rapidly as the weather. I am wildly alive. My muse is smiling.
