2017: Remembering Stories From Around The World

Jlynn Frazier

I sat down this week to write my annual reflection post that includes a series of images created throughout the year. I began by thinking about what I had done this year and all that I had to celebrate. Then I started thinking about the state of the world and began scribbling down some of the big news and events. I thought I would kick off my annual reflection by sharing some of the stories that stood out in my mind this year. This is not an exhaustive list, just what is striking me today as I place my year in the context of the world.

  • Women's March on January 21 became largest single-day demonstration in U.S. recorded history [Washington Post]
  • Amazon's Kindle turned 10 [Fast Company]
  • Cost of solar panels went down 26% [Think Progress]
  • Iceland becomes the first country to require gender pay equality [Fortune]
  • Snow leopards were removed from the endangered list (on the list since 1972) [BBC]
  • More than 2,500 U.S. leaders stood up in city halls, state houses, boardrooms, and college campuses and signed the We Are Still In declaration in support of The Paris Agreement [wearestillin.com
