Create More, Fear Less

Jlynn Frazier

The best time to create... is NOW! There has and will always be a lot of uncertainty in the world. Stemming from this uncertainty is fear. We wonder what will happen next? Will it be good or bad for me, my family, my community, and the planet?

The thing with fear is that it has every right to be there with you. It is an emotion to acknowledge. It is not, however, a guiding star and does not get to make decisions. When we allow fear to guide us, our perspective becomes so narrowly focused. We stop being here right now in the moment we have. We stop showing compassion. We stop creating our art.

Seth Godin was right on when he said, "Emotions like fear and anxiety come and go, and we can note them, but we don't need to battle them or obsess over them, particularly when they become an impediment to creation." [Highly recommend reading Seth's book "What To Do When It's Your Turn (And It's Always Your Turn)" for tons of accessible, nuggets of wisdom to chew on).

I am just as human and vulnerable as anyone. I know that sometimes fear and uncertainty can  overwhelm especially when I am not aware of how it is creeping up on me. When this happens, I take a big step back and then I step out the door to spend time outside.

Nature is nurturing for us all. When we slow down and listen, the natural world speaks to us about resilience, endurance, and strength.

We all have great work to do. We are all creative, curious, and capable. Don't let fear of the unknown or fear of failure stop you from making your art, writing your story, coding a new site, tinkering on an antique car, dancing to the song, traveling to a new place, spending time on your yoga mat, sketching and crafting, or talking about hopes, dreams, and your greatest desires.

We need everyone to create more and fear less. We all have times when we need a nudge (myself include). We are on this journey together. Let's cheer each other on.

Pathways & Possibilities: Personal Projects and Fire Rainbows

Jlynn Frazier

I am approaching the final weekend and week of moving. It is exciting but a lot of work. I enjoy the freedom that each move brings. It is also a great time to get rid of things and as I mentioned last week... to give things away. I was surprised this morning with homemade maple syrup and goats milk soap as a thank you for something I had given away. It was a wonderfully nice gesture and the perfect for me since I can use them immediately.

My access to Internet has been very intermittent so I have relied on Twitter to share what I have been reading and thinking about. Here are some of the links that inspired thought and action this week.

An image from Lake Louise in Banff National Park Canada. I just recently went back and found this gem. I decided to put together a project page with alums and this image is in my first one of Canada. View full album

Pathways & Possibilities: Tell me a story, awaken my heart

Jlynn Frazier

Tell me you remember you are still a human being, not just a human doing...Tell me something about your heart, and awaken my heart.

How many times have do we have conversations like this? Hi friend, how are you? I'm good... really busy." Busy has become so normalized in our culture. Everyone is moving so quickly and trying to learn more about how to be more productive and get more done. There is never enough time. right? Well, yes there is only a limited amount of time in the day. We all have 24 hours to make choices about how we spend it. Busy does not equal productive!

This weekend, try to slow down and connect to someone important in your life. Being "too busy" is a choice. Here is what is "top of mind" for me this week and thought I would start it off with two stories on this notion of "too busy."  I hope you have a wonderful weekend and that these links help bring as many ideas and inspiration to you as they have for me!

I recently enjoyed a weekend adventure that took me all the way to Quoddy Head State Park in Lubec. It was my first time visiting this area which is also the easternmost point in the United States.

A highlight for me was returning to the Cutler Coast to hike and camp for a night in the backcountry. Here are two photos of the trail!
